Niacin is a common drug in most medicine cabinets, and it mostly goes by the name of vitamin B3. It's a curative solution to high blood cholesterol. What the niacin cholesterol procedure does is that it works to increase the HDL in the blood while lowering the LDL. LDL is the bad kind of cholesterol that is responsible for the many cholesterol related ailments. The one with the heaviest documentation is the heart attack. Getting the whole nine yards of cholesterol and niacin and the relationship is daunting, but here are some of the basic facts.
What are the available kinds of niacin? In a nutshell, niacin comes in three forms. There is nicotinic acid, nicotinamide and inositol hexaniacinate. The one that is most readily available is nicotinic acid which is referred to as niacin in most cases. Over the counter, it is available in differing concentrations, depending on the complexity of the cholesterol problem. The other two have less involvement in the cholesterol relations.
Is a second opinion from a doctor needed before some self diagnosis? From the initial suggestion, that has clearly been established as a necessity. A doctor is meant to evaluate your health in precision and recommend the best strength that your body would need. Since you lack the same kind of medical expertise needed to make the correct assumptions, it's always best to consult a doctor before taking any niacin.
So the niacin, what's the chemistry behind it? The chemistry and biology behind it is a whole topic altogether. But in much condensed detail, nicotinic acid affects the profile of the body lipids. It lowers the LDL and increases the HDL by the assumed percentages of 15 and 30% on the average. It also works on reducing the triglyceride percentages by close to 50%. It also reduces the LDL output by the liver.
Are there side effects when one takes Niacin? A couple of these are recorded during the first few days. The common ones include a shift in the percentages of blood glucose, palpitations and hot flushes. Most of these if not all, subside once the body gets used to the medication.
For success in restoring health to the blood cholesterol, the niacin cholesterol procedure is one of the best solutions.
