ol and bad cholesterol, as you may have heard. Although having cholesterol in every cell in the body is completely normal, having high levels of bad cholesterol is exactly that, bad. And, with extreme levels of chemicals and pollutants, and the like, it is important to maintain optimum health with as few drugs as possible. That is why it is important to learn how to lower cholesterol without drugs.

Both hormones and healthy cells are built within our bodies with the help of cholesterol. That makes it an essential to the body. However, fatty deposits are developed in the blood vessels once the levels have increased. High cholesterol levels may put you at risk of having a heart attack or stroke due to the of the lack of oxygen that is reaching necessary organs, which is caused by narrowing arteries.

Therefore, regular exercise and a healthy diet is key to keeping your cholesterol at healthy levels. Decreasing the amount of excessively high fat foods, such as dairy products is a step in the right direction. Educate yourself in understanding the nutrition labels on packaging to make yourself aware of the fats that you need to avoid.

For example, trans fats are found in a vast array of foods. They come from hydrogenated oils. Regardless of what is listed and claimed on the packaging, always read the ingredients and try to avoid any product that has hydrogenated oils, even if the level is extremely low. Trans fats will not only raise the LDL, which is the bad cholesterol, it will lower the HDL, which is the bad cholesterol.

If you are a smoker, quit! Smoking cigarettes increases cholesterol. There are ways to help smokers deal with the withdrawals, such as special gum, patches, and support groups. If you are above the average weight for your height, lose weight, as it contributes to this problem.

Choose foods that promote a healthy heart such as fruits and vegetables, fish that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and whole grains. Try to reduce the amount of refined foods, such as white bread, white pasta, and the like. Instead, opt for whole wheat, et cetera.

Limit the amount of alcohol you drink, to no more than one or two drinks a day, and exercise for at least 30 minutes each day. Just a small lifestyle changes can make a huge difference for your overall health.
