To some people being a rat sound like a awful thing. In the U.S.A. we associate it with someone who
is sneaky or who tells another person's secret. This is where we get the phrase "rat someone out," it means to tell on someone for doing something that they shouldn't; however in Chinese horoscope the rat is a person who is smart, quick witted and well liked.

It is considered, in China, very respectable to be born in the year of the rat. The rat begins the cycle of Chinese horoscopes. Once every 12 years is a rat year. The Chinese New Year is never on the same day, so it may be helpful for those who want to know if they were born in the year of the rat to check a Chinese calendar.

People born in the year of the rat as said to have many different talents. They are also thought to be very imaginative, intelligent and curious. While those born in the year of the rat have many positive traits in Chinese horoscopes, there are negatives to being a rat as well. Rats need a lot of stimulation, both mental and physical. This can become a problem, because when they don't feel that they have enough stimulation they tend to take on too much. The end result is not being able to meet all of their responsibilities.

Diamonds are a rat's best friend! Rats also seem to enjoy garnet and amethyst. Many of them are drawn to blue hues. You might find may light blue shirts in their closet. Those born in Rat years seem to enjoy basket ball. They are also a creative bunch. Many of them love to draw and paint.

Those born in rat years tend to have quite a few friends. This is because they are easy to talk to. If you find yourself talking to someone born in the year of the rat, you will notice that they have something to say about everything.

Rats make wonderful homemakers. They seem to love to do household chores. The communication skills of the rat make them great comedians and writers as well. Rats are also great historians, managers, and entrepreneurs.
