This is a hectic world we live in. Everyone is always on the go all the time. Lack of sleep is not
uncommon, but sometimes this lack of sleep leads to more serious problems. Insomnia is one of those more serious problems. Insomnia, itself, leads to world of health related problems. Chinese medicine has cures for insomnia that have been around for centuries.

Unlike Western medicine, which believes insomnia is usually caused by something maybe stress, traditional Chinese medicine believes that insomnia is a disease. They, also, see it as imbalance of fundamental substances or major organs. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that when a person suffers from insomnia their Spirit is wandering. The Spirit is housed in major organs such as the liver and heart. When suffering from insomnia these organs become unlined and this causes the Spirit to wander.

In classic Chinese textbooks, there are numerous pages devoted to insomnia. Some noted types of insomnia are dream-disturbed sleep, difficulty falling asleep, waking up easily, and waking up at a certain time every night. These all relate to organ problems according to traditional Chinese medicine. From organs not being aligned properly to deficiency patterns.

There are some symptoms that have come to help Chinese doctors, who practice traditional medicine. These symptoms are from one thing, but point to the reasons why the patient is having insomnia. A few of these are, when the heart and kidney are not lined up correctly the person tends to have lightheadedness, weakness in the lower back, palpitations, and gets flushed easily. Spleen/ heart deficiency in people cause them to be forgetful, have poor concentration, and constant worrying.

Chinese doctors observe the kidneys the most when dealing with insomnia problems. The kidneys are the major organs for observing for sleep problems. The kidneys store energy and when they are no longer capable of storing that energy insomnia occurs. It occurs because the excess energy rises up to the heart, which is the spirit. This greatly disturbs the heart and causes the problems.

Some cures for insomnia that are used in Chinese medicine are acupuncture, herbal therapy, and acupressure. Acupuncture is the best cure used for insomnia. They take needles and put them at pressure points all over your body. However, if you are not into the idea of needles in your body, herbal therapy is another thing you should try. Some good flavors are chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, and passion flower. One other thing to try is acupressure or a massage. It works in the same way as acupressure. Only without the needles. The pressure is used to correct the energy in your body.

With our obsession with the quick fix in a little pill, we have forgotten to look at our inner workings to find what is wrong with the outer part. Chinese medicine focuses on a natural healing process to deal with insomnia. We should all try to look into this natural process of curing insomnia.
